BRANCHING OUT

5 MARCH - 26 MARCH 2016

10AM - 4PM TUESDAY TO SATURDAY

Thank you Annamaria Di Cara FDIA, Colour Designer & Educator, for officially launching the exhibition at 3pm on Saturday 5 March 2016.

Branching Out references the inspiration I derive from my garden and the bush environment. I like to collect and photograph natural objects to observe the detail in structure, pattern and textures. I am attracted to the linear quality and the aspect of positive and negative space of bare trees in a landscape, a stand of tall tree trunks or a tangle of vines. Line plays an important part in my work both in its decorative role, and as a method of construction. I work with finely rolled textured coils, in essence building with a series of lines. This takes place in a fairly orderly way for some forms or a more random approach, similar to doodling with a pen, in others. I tend to approach my work in an intuitive way, allowing the material and making process to inform my work. I find that working with porcelain allows me to explore the qualities of fragility and quietness which I seek to convey in my work.
