Elizabeth Rowe’s ceramic ‘boats’ were inspired by her recent trip to Japan, specifically from the magnificent ‘stone’ that stands at the entrance to the world famous Kinkakuji (Golden Temple) in Kyoto.  Elizabeth’s vessels are intended to be used for ikebana arrangements.   Some of the boats were wood-fired in a tradtional Japanese ‘anagram’ kiln, a particularly challenging style of firing clay as it involves an average of three days continuous firing at very high temperatures.  They are fired this way to get a natural ash glaze.
