IZETTE FELTHUN

BREAKING THE MOULD

6 SEPTEMBER - 4 OCTOBER 2014

10am - 5pm Tuesday to Saturday

Opening with the artist 2pm-4pm, Saturday 6 September 2014

As an artist, Izette is primarily inspired by the female figure, drawn by its power to evoke an emotional response and to its rich tradition throughout the history of art.

By “Breaking the Mould”, Izette is looking at the female form in order to break with and negate the contemporary obsession with bodily appearance using feminine vessel forms and sculptures as a tool to question perception and representation.

The word ‘mould’ is also an allusion to the creation of some of the slip cast forms in the exhibition, which are created using plaster moulds.

“In this exhibition I present the female nude, not as an ideal beauty, but rather as an expression of modern ideas about the body. I am breaking the mould of the classical sculptures of the past to find a new relationship between art and the perceptions of the female body today. I am countering the contemporary obsession with bodily appearance.”
