KYLIE ROSE MCLEAN

PROGRESSION

2 - 28 AUGUST 2014

10am - 5pm Tuesday to Saturday, 10am - 3pm Sunday 17 August 2014

Mulan Gock invites you to join us for the Opening and drinks with the artist on Saturday 2 August 2014, 2pm-4pm.  We are thrilled to have Trisha Dean, Acting Head Teacher Visual Arts & Ceramics, Hornsby Campus, officially launch the exhibition.

Progression showcases past and recent work by Kylie Rose McLean, inspired by the Central Coast and Sydney Harbour coastlines. Landscape is a constant influence in her art practice.

Kylie Rose’s mound-shaped forms prove a perfect canvas for experimentation. The “Fat Quarters x 8” pieces show graphic interpretations of the rocks, water, and foliage along the Koolewong foreshore on Brisbane Water, while the painterly treatment of her new work, “Mapping Place”, describes Clarkes Point Reserve on Sydney Harbour.

Her curiousity is also captured by the chance outcomes from random chemical reactions at low temperatures in raku, pit and paper box firings. “Anticipating the results, then uncovering the fired pieces from ash is exhilarating and requires much patience. It’s so tempting to uncover the pieces before they’re cool enough.”

For Kylie Rose, the beauty of her surrounding natural environment resonates deeply with her. “Brisbane Water, off Koolewong Reserve on the Central Coast of New South Wales, is relatively protected. This watery mass is a changing environment: sometimes still and calm, sometimes rocking roughly up and down, other times racing towards the shore. The mangroves rise up around the edges and the sea grass clings to the rocks.”
